               (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/19/91.

            4. (U) TITLE: PERSONNEL: FAMILY ASSISTANCE CENTER CRISIS
            INTERVENTION


            5. (U) OBSERVATION: The activation of the Family Assistance
            Center resulted in many family members using it for problem
            solving. This included a number of "crisis" calls ranging -From
            suicide threats to a need for a person to listen to problems.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: Clinical staff members from the Fort Riley
            Counseling Center are on duty 24 hours a day to assist with the
            above stated calls. Their availability has decreased the
            likelihood of a catastrophic incident, such as suicide, from
            occurring and allowed family members to ventilate their needs.

            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: An office was established in the FAC for
            the Fort Riley Counseling Center staff to provide crisis
            intervention services when needed.
