            2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/08/91.

            3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), ACTIVE
            COMPONENT, MOBILIZATION, MANPOWER, SUPPORTABILITY,
            INTEROPERABILITY, TRAINING.

            4. (U) TITLE: MOBILIZATION, TRAINING FOR MOBILIZED UNIT MINISTRY
            TEAMS (UMTS)


            5. (U) OBSERVATION: UMTs must be trained at the MOB Station.


            6. (U) DISCUSSION: Mobilized RC UMTs reported to Fort Riley
            with expectations that they were "fully trained" and "ready" for
            deployment. This was not always the case.

            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Experience has shown that UMTs require
            3-4 weeks time to acclimatize to life as a "full time soldier".
            Training is a key part of this "acclimatization".

            S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: The Mobilization Station
            Installation Chaplain develop a training program "tailored" to
            mobilized UMT personnel.
