          4. (U) TITLE. Logistics: Quality Assurance Surveillance-
          Ammunition Loads


          5. (LI) OBSERVATION: To combat load the lst Infantry Division's
          vehicles for shipment to Operation Desert Shield.

          6. (LI) DISCUSSION-. The Division was required to combat load
          their- basic load of ammunition. Given the mission, the
          Surveillance Office enlisted the aide of Outside inspectors and
          trained local workers to accomplish the task of ensuring all
          ammunition, packed within each vehicle, was secured to prevent
          movement during rail/ocean transport. No reports of damage to
          been received.


          7. (LI) LESSON LEARNED- Proper planning and trained personnel,
          for ammunition loading, provided safe transport of the
          ammunition.


          S. (LI) RECOMMENDED ACTION: That routine training include combat
          loading of ammunition.
