Radcliff, 22 Feb 91 4410 Opns Spt Wing Vice Comdr & Dep Comdr for Opns; Vice Comdr 10th Tactical Fighter Wg, RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom By: TSgt Barry L. Spink Transcribed by: Faye Davis S: Colonel Radcliff, what were the conditions that brought you here to King Khalid Military City (KKMC), and what did you find when you came here? R. I deployed to King Fahd Air Base, leading the ADVON [advanced echelon] for the 511th TFS from RAF Alconbury; arrived there on the 20th of December 1990, worked on the bed down of the unit until early January. On the 5th of January Colonel Sharp [Alan G.], the Commander of the 354th Tac Fighter Wing, advised me that Brig Gen Profitt [Glenn A.], one of the air division commanders in theater, had selected me to come to KKMC as the Deputy Commander for Operations for the 4410th Operational Support Wing. My mission was to insure the offensive combat capability of the KKMC airfield. Subsequently, I was designated the Vice Commander of the wing. Colonel Van Meter [William C.], the Wing Commander, gave me the responsibility for all operations on the airfield. It was clear that no one, to that point, had attempted to gain total control of U.S. operations on the airfield. My charter was to bring that under control of the 4410th Wing and to coordinate operations off the field to insure that everyone obtained the maximum capability from the resources available.
