4. (U) TITLE: PLANS & POLICY: Installation Provisional Equip

5. (u) OBSERVATION: Unit Key Control Procedures
6. (u) DISCUSSION: Regardless of requirement, unit key control
is -Functionally non-existent. Even less emphasis is placed on
key control at deployment.
7. (u) LESSON LEARNED: Proper key controls/procedures should be
followed by all units.
S. (u) RECOMMENDED ACTION: A. Order adequate key boxes, locks,
hasps, string tags, etc.. Make available a key box large enough
to accommodate three rings of keys for each unit and +our rings
+or each motorpool. The IPECO mission is part of the deployment
plan and supplies should be held in reserve for this mission.
B. Log in keys an a continuous basis to insure that they are
available for Directorate of Engineering and Housing, escorts,
contractors, etc..
C. Change outside door locks immediately upon departure of unit
to preclude unauthorized access.
D. Establish for each unit one key hook for outside keys and
one for inside keys for each building they have. Outside keys
are issued to Directorate of Engineering and Housing,
Furnishings Management Office and others who have work to do in
the building. Inside keys require an IPECO escort.
E. Inside keys should be +or areas specifically required to be
locked. Minimum inside keys will bes
1. Sensitive items room (computers, typewriters,
televisions, vacuums, etc.).
2. Personal Property Area.
3. Other areas requiring security may be Class VIII medical
items and chemical/military unit items. These items should be
combined in the sensitive items room if possible to preclude the
need to lock more inside doors. All other doors should be left
open.
