The main'ariivod'and assumed control of the battalion about 1400. At this
time a security patrol. was organized to investigate a series of bunkers
adjacent to the Bn CP's position. 'While conducting the patrol a Marine
stopped on a mine and received fatal injuries. As the tactical situation
developed, about 16ee, the battalion reoriented back to their orginal Az of
Fire to support TF PB's movement. During the night of G+l and in response to
a chemical warning the battalion incroaned MOPP Level from 2 to 3 and then
eventually to MOPP-4 when Dosi-tive readings for a blister agent was reported
            by one of our batteries.

party arrived
in their position (grid 830998) adjacent to the Al Burquan oil field and
oriented on a@ Az of fire of G300 mils: Shortly aft@r arrival about 0730, the
battery observed enemy forces around their position. A company of LAI Bn
responded to a reques@ for assistance and the enemy forces withdrew when
engaged. Almost.inmediately thereafter the battery.ri!oriented on an Az of
2700 to support the battle at the second breach.' While conducting fire
missions to the SE, Iraqi forces firing automatic weapons fiom vohicl.es
attacked the battery position from the NE, the battery shifted one howitzer
into the direc@ fire mode destroying one vehicle and forcing the others to
flea. Late in the afternoon, unon conclusion of the counteratack the. bat',ery
reoriented north to provide fir@o in support of TF PB. During the early
morning hours'of G+2 and in response to a chemical warning messaage and
positive readings for blister agents (MK 256 ki@) the battery went from MOPP-2
to MOPP-4. The positive readings were determined to be caused by oil in the
            air.

                 c) Battery R. Upon arrival in position (grid 838014) adjacent to the oil
f'ield about 0700, the advance party reported 12 EPWO surrendering. Having
evacuated the EPWO to division the battery continued to prepare positions
oriented north. About 0030 the battery relaid on an Az of fire of 2700 to
support the clearing of the second breach. As the battle raged to clear the
second breach and the Al Burquan 'bilfield, enemy forcea'wore spotted moving
several hundred meters east of their position. The enemy was engaged with
f
the battery position. The battery 'received several rounds of incoming
ar@lillary/mortar fire wounding one-Marine. More incoming was received
throughout the day with no additional casualties reported. As visibility
improved from the burning oilfield 2 HRL and a C2 vehicle were identified
along the berm. The battery engaged the MRL with direct fire and automatic
weapons destroying one and neutralizing the other. Cobra gunships were called
in to knockout the C2 vehicle and remaining infantry. Later -in the afternoon
the battery reoriented to the north. Once darkness fell, enemy armor units
were observed moving through the battery position with visibility limited to
just a few feet. The enemy force passed through without incident.
