2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 12/05/90.

4. (U) TITLE: PLANS AND POLICY: Printing, Duplication of Items
5. (u) OBSERVATION: Printing requests ran AMOCK during the
period that began with the alert of Ist ID until the division
deployed.
6. (u) DISCUSSION: Extra dollars were spent to contract out
special and emergency jobs, and extra dollars were used +or
overtime. Necessary items, such as Family Support checklists or
solders handbooks that could have been printed in bulk
inexpensively were duplicated again and again by other units
wanting more copies. This lack of prior planning and
coordination resulted in the extra cost.
7. (u) LESSON LEARNED: The division should establish one
central printing control point, and establish policy to control
the reporduction of previously printed material by units.
13. (u) RECOMMENDED ACTION: G3: Print one soldiers handbook for
all division soldiers. Plan and order early enough to avoid
escalating printing costs. Consolidate requests for printing
like items so all can be done at once.
