          4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: UNIT CDE INVENTORY DATA

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: CDE inventory data received +ram units
subordinate to Division were in many cases inaccurate.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: Many Fort Riley units did not take the
quarterly CDE report required by FR 725-1 seriously. As a
result decisions about the proper use of funds to +ill CDE
short-Falls could not be made without requiring two additional
inventory iterations, one of them during non-duty hours.
Accurate submission a+ quarterly CDE status reports is essential
          to unit readiness.
63/NBC did much to help correct the problem:
CDE Reports received from the units were computerized
and bumped against a spreadsheet program to verify authorization
          levels.
Computer program then computed overages and shortages,
monitored comulative changes in divisional CDE stock levels, and
calculated the funds required to fill unit CDE shortages +or
MSCs and as well as centrally managed CDE shortages +or the
          installation.
Original software (IBM) was obtained through the Army
eet local needs.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED- Command emphasis is required to ensure
that quarterly CDE inventories are performed thoroughly and
          accurately.

          B. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: CG: Make CDE inventories an item
          +or command emphasis.
