        PERSONNEL ISSUE NO. 9 Linguists needed in Contingency Hospitals
        (SGHR ITEM NO. 8)

        DISCUSSION: Several patients seen at contingency hospitals did not speak
        English. Commanders need to identify members of the staff that speak foreign
        languages to ensure patient's needs are met.

       RECOMMENDATION: Commanders identify early staff members fluent in other
       languages as standard procedure. Request augmentation of translators if
       expected patient workload will be other than English speaking and staff cannot
       meet requirements.

ACTIONS REQUIRED: Noted item.

       ACTIONS COMPLETED: Deployed commanders should address this issue if the
       requirement exists and request assistance from appropriate headquarters if
       needed.

        STATUS: Closed.
