to my people, too. Had they not taken over in that way,
there would not have been problems.
It got to the point where I communicated with Colonel Brown
and asked him to please let us have our own account. We
went ahead with the Army MEDSOM [Medical Supply, Optical,
and Maintenance] System; just did it. We were not supposed
to do that, but we couldn't get medical supplies because the
supply person was not available, so we went ahead and did
that on our own. The supply at Tent City, though, when we
tried to do that on our own, did not allow us to have that
account. Even with numerous requests to Colonel Brown, he
would not bend on it; so to this day, we are lacking a lot
of things in this MASF that I regret very much.
S: Besides some of the things you have already brought up, are
their other lessons learned about this operation up here?
M: To repeat, if the hub will continue, there [should] be more
of a geographical separation between the different elements.
I think that the clearing platoon and MASF need to be next
door to each other, but I do not think the AECE needs to be
near either the clearing platoon or the MASF, not even the
ASF, as long as there is radio contact. Communication, of
course, is most important.
